And Just Like That, DuckDuckGo Becomes Google — One Time Free Search Engine Now Down-Ranks Conservative Content – Bans Gateway Pundit

This morning we received this email from a Gateway Pundit reader:

Hi Jim,

I don’t now if you’re aware of it but it appears that duckduckgo is now filtering out your website. I switched over to their android app back in 2020 and I could just type in “thegatewaypundit.com” and your site would be the first to come up.Last week I noticed it wouldn’t come up at all anymore unless I add the www. In front of it. This morning I noticed even if I type the whole thing now, it doesn’t come up at all.

I just tested the duckduckgo.com search using chrome and searching on http://www.thegatewaypundit.com does not return your site at all.As I’m sure you are – getting a bit sick of this.

Best,

Kevin

    1. I still use Webcrawler (one of the early search sites) and a few other obscure search engines. Sadly I use Google more than I should, but it works where a lot of others fail and I am deep in the Google ecosystem with 5 Android devices and 3 Google Voice numbers.

      1. I completely understand. Hopefully, we’ll have our own search engine soon and Google won’t even be an afterthought. And I’ll definitely try Webcrawler. Thank you so much for referring me! 😀

        1. Getting our own search engine is going to take work. I started using ad blockers and blocking tracking by default in all the browsers I use. I whitelist sites I trust and want to support, but even those have ads blocked on them if they use slimy advertiser networks.

The hosts file I start with is here: https://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm and available free to anyone. I donate to him from time to time because his work is worth it to me. I also use AdBlock add-on in Chrome, Firefox and Edge even though it has to be sideloaded these days. (https://www.getadblock.com/en/) Away from home I use a self-hosted VPN back to my home network so I know my traffic is protected.

I don’t even see Google ads on Youtube anymore, which only sucks for the channels I watch if I don’t like them enough to join their Patreon groups.
